LUI Che Woo Prize－世界文明賞は24日、2018年LUI Che Woo Prize受賞者3人を発表した。世界が直面する最も重要な問題を克服するための驚嘆すべき努力をたたえて賞を授与された2018年の受賞者は：

＊Pratham Education Foundation－積極的活力賞
＊世界気象機関（World Meteorological Organization）－福祉改善賞
＊ハンズジョセフ・フェル（Hans-Josef Fell）氏－持続可能性賞

2018年LUI Che Woo Prizeは24日の記者会見で発表された。貴賓としてLUI Che Woo Prizeの賞評議会の創設者兼会長である呂志和博士、LUI Che Woo Prize Limitedの評議会メンバーであるモーゼス・チェン・モーチ博士、賞推薦委員会の委員長であるローレンス・J・ロー教授らが参加した。

2018年積極的活力賞（今年の特定分野「非識字の除去」）はPratham Education Foundationに授与された。Prathamは教育の質の向上と識字能力獲得に貢献するため、年間100万人の子どもたちが基本的な識字能力と計算能力を獲得するのを直接支援している。エビデンスに基づくモデルに大きく結び付いているPrathamは、現在インド最大のNGOの1つであり、教育システム格差に対処する高品質で低コストの介入に注力している。Prathamは、結果重視のアカウンタビリティーに重点を置く複製可能でスケーラブルなモデルを通じ、インドの教育界やその他の分野で永続的かつ広く影響力のある成功を収め、適応可能なデモモデルを政府に提供することができる。

Pratham Education Foundationの最高経営責任者（CEO）であるルクミニ・バネルジ博士は「われわれはLUI Che Woo Prizeを受賞したことに驚き、かつ喜んでいる。世界をより良い、よりポジティブなものにするというわれわれの価値観とビジョンは、積極的活力賞と非常によく似ている。国際的な賞のこの寛大な栄誉は、最も必要としている子どもたちに良質の教育を引き続き促進する上でPrathamの活動を大きく支える」と語った。

2018年福祉改善賞（今年の特定分野「自然災害の被害縮小」）は世界気象機関（WMO）に授与された。WMOは世界的基準を設定し、採択された政策を実施するために191の加盟国・地域を支援することにより国際協力の枠組みを提供し、世界規模での気象的ハザードの監視、予測および伝達を改善する。WMOの持続的努力は、過去半世紀にわたって観測された異常気象、気候、水関連事象による世界的な人命損失を10分の1に減らす上で重要な役割を果たしている。

世界気象機関事務局長のベッテリ・ターラス博士は「極端な天候、気候、水問題に関連する災害損失を軽減するためのWMOの長期的にわたる取り組みがLUI Che Woo Prizeによって認められたことは光栄である。常に、われわれの最優先事項は、天候、気候、水関連の課題に取り組む上でメンバーをサポートすることである。われわれはLUI Che Woo Prizeを受賞したことにより、主要な専門知識と重要なサポートを差し伸べる絶好の地位にあることは間違いない」と語った。

2018年持続可能性賞（今年の特定分野「再生可能エネルギー開発」）はハンズジョセフ・フェル氏に授与された。global renewable energy movementの創設者として国際的に認められているフェル氏は、1970年代以来、環境パイオニアである。同氏は1994年、世界初の太陽光発電エネルギー・コミュニティーを創設し、再生可能エネルギー市場を変革、ドイツ議会での再生可能エネルギー法採択を勝ち取った。この法律は以来世界中で100回以上複製され、世界中の再生可能エネルギー実践の変化に貢献した。2000年にドイツを世界初の大規模な再生可能エネルギー経済とするという途轍もない成功を収めたことを足場に、同氏は以降、ベストプラクティスを共有し、100%再生可能エネルギーへのグローバルな移行を加速するために世界各国の政府や議会と交渉を続け、 同氏の影響力をグローバルレベルに拡大しつつある。

ハンズジョセフ・フェル氏は「世界全体の100%再生可能エネルギーへの移行を目指して持続可能エネルギーを推進することは、私のライフワークである。 LUI Che Woo Prizeを受賞することは大変な名誉であり、持続可能で平和な世界を目指し人々に活力を与えるという私の将来の活動を強化しよう。非常に感謝する」と語った。

LUI Che Woo Prizeの賞評議会の創設者兼会長である呂志和博士は以下の通り語った。

「今年の受賞者は、持続可能性の向上、人類の福祉向上、積極的活力の招来に大きく貢献し、賞評議会により全会一致で選ばれた。このような優秀な受賞者の表彰を可能にするために、賞委員会、賞推薦委員会および選考委員会が行った協調的な努力に心から感謝する。 もう一度おめでとう」

今後も、賞は進化し、各賞カテゴリーの範囲をさらに広げ続け、幅広い多様な分野にわたって優れた貢献をした個人や団体をより多く候補として指名することを可能にする。

2019年LUI Che Woo Prizeの候補指名期間は今年9月に開始される。候補指名プロセスは招請のみに限定。LUI Che Woo Prizeは、大学、学術研究所、専門組織の責任者など1000人超の指名者（ノミネーター）に招請状を発送する。指名（ノミネーション）は人種、宗教、国籍（個人の場合）、所在地（組織の場合）に関わりなく検討される。

呂志和博士により2015年に創設された「LUI Che Woo Prize－世界文明賞」は世界文明を発展させ、人々が調和した世界を構築するよう啓発するため、毎年授与され、この種のものとしては初めての国際的で分野横断的、革新的な賞である。優れた貢献を行っている世界中の個人や組織を表彰し、栄誉を授けることを目指し、世界の持続可能な開発、人類の福祉の改善、積極的な生活態度の推進と積極的活力の強化という3つの目標を奨励している 。

各受賞者はそれぞれ現金賞金2000万香港ドル（256万米ドル相当）、認定書、トロフィーを受け取った。各賞は、1人の個人ないし1つの組織である単一の受領者に授与される。

LUI Che Woo Prizeは香港で組み込まれた保証契約による有限責任の慈善企業であるLUI Che Woo Prize Limitedによって管理・運営されている。Prize Companyは、評議員会により指導・監督される。
